As many other people, I got introduced to Poker, especially Texas Hold'Em, by watching some of the Tournaments on TV. I liked how much of your personality you can put into your game and the capability of some players to read their opponents. Some players often seems a few steps ahead of the rest (this part of poker reminds me a lot about chess).
Soon after I signed up for my first Online Poker Room. I didn't play for real money and didn't like it much. Not because of the game itself but of the way Play-Money Games are sometimes played. Before I moved to Real-Money tables I needed more know-how about the game. I searched the Internet and found a book written by Phil Hellmuth. I already liked his style from the Tournaments I watched on TV. I read the book twice. I knew the basic rules but this book explained some how's and why's. I learned to categorize players and was better prepared for their moves. At least I began to understand.
A few weeks later I spend a weekend with some friends in a cabin. We played a couple of tournaments and I won both. There was definitely also luck involved – it's a gamble after all.
Since then I played Online Real-Money Tournaments (the ones with the small buy-ins). I also played in two Casino Tournaments and I host games with friends and family at my house. Not by any means games to get rich or even make money. It is just for the fun, entertainment and socializing with people of similar interests.
I read several books about Poker (the internet makes finding information so much easier). During my search for information I found a few interesting websites and want to share these with you. These site are, by any means, not the only ones available but a good place to start.
